These beautiful Hyacinth bulbs were given to me ten days ago. At that time they had no sign of flower, just three sets of leaves.

In such a short time they have developed these lovely pale pink flowers and will be fully open in a matter of days. I love the pink bucket too!

Graffiti Grannies

Graffiti Grannies (or as the local newspaper would have it, Grannys).

Who are they?

We shall never know.

During the last year Cornwall has been bombarded by some very pretty knitted scenes appearing under cover of darkness around the county. There are fish hanging from posts. Knitted cup cakes appear in tea rooms. Dollies wait to be picked up.

There are messages with each object which say 'If you like me, feel free to keep me'.

The row of mice are sitting by the Harbour of Mousehole, each one tied safely to a rail.
The group of grannies range from ages 40 to 95 and work in total secrecy. They don't allow anyone to know who they are, and when interviewed on West Country Television, they all wore masks!
Reactions have differed locally, most being positive, but when the grannies left knitted flowers on a listed monument, they were removed.
The grannies say that their objective is to bring a smile to people's faces, and I think they succeed!

English treats.

Just occasionally our Supermarket has a little treat on the small 'Foreign foods' section. It's interesting to see what they think we English prefer. The odd tinned meat pie rubs shoulders with all the year round Fruit mincemeat. Tins of ready made custard and rice pudding beckon.

But today, there they were, reminders of my childhood...the Crunchie Bars.

This is how I remember them, costing 4 pennies of my pocket money!

This is how they are today, in very sophisticated shiny wrappers, costing an awful lot more than fourpence!
I hadn't realised that they were 'born' in 1929. There were all sorts of different flavours on trial, lemonade, Tango orange and even Champagne, but for me nothing beats the original honeycomb taste. Now still every bit as good as in my childhood.....
and I deserve a little treat after all that packing and sorting.....don't I?
