This interesting piece of scenery was part of the Oklahoma! show that we saw last night at our City Hall.
It was such a good performance, and took me right back to the days long ago when all that Truro had was an Amateur Dramatic society.
Every year a different musical was put on, and we always went.
I remember Oklahoma, and how we sang the songs for weeks afterwards.
Even the American accents were well done, not always easy if you are English!
The costumes were great, lots of gingham and frilly petticoats.
And the singing was superb.
We are very fortunate to have this City Hall and we certainly get some good productions throughout the year.
We are off to stay at the Blind Veterans (St Dunstans) Centre in Brighton next week. It's a holiday for both of us, and my husband will be in the craft workshops part of the time carving Soapstone.
His elderly sisters, both of whom live about an hour or so away, have arranged to visit us there which saves them the long trek to Cornwall.
So I shall not be posting for a couple of weeks but will see you at the end of June..

It sounds as though you had a lovely night of theatre last night. I wish you a safe journey to Brighton next week (don't get lost!!!) and good weather to enjoy your stay. You will see such a difference in your garden when you return, won't you? Probably those roses will be blooming by then; the lawn will definitely need cutting and weeds will be rampant. Or have you arranged for a hunky gardener to do lots of work while you are away? Lol, lol.
ReplyDeleteGardener, yes, but quite ordinary!
DeleteI don't like leaving my garden at this time of year, but family are stepping in to do watering etc.
Do enjoy your stay in Brighton.
ReplyDeleteA small thank you from me. Last year you organised a snail mail swap and put me in touch with an American lady. We have continued to correspond to the satisfaction (and pleasure) of both of us. Thank you,
I LOVE Oklahoma! It is a brilliant musical, and lends itself well to amdram productions [gingham is so cheap for making the costumes] Have a wonderful stay in Brighton - I know what a blessing that place has been to you both, and to many others, over the years xx
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip. I hope you show us some of your husband's carvings when you get back. Hugs
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I hope you have a safe and fun-filled trip to Brighton! I've seen a musical, only a small community theater production when I was in high school. I think this would be tremendous fun!

ReplyDeleteI can hear the music. I met a young woman yesterday at my granddaughters' tea party. I asked her what her where she was from because of her accent. She said England, Birghton. You will have a lovely time away. See you when you return.
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth! Enjoy your vacation, as I know you will! It's so wonderful to hear that you and your husband are back to normal things after all the hospitalizations and worries.
ReplyDeleteI love that play! Looks like this one had plenty of life in it :) Never thought about the 'American Accents' part. Glad it sounded good.
Blessings on your travels,
Ceil
I hope your stay is wonderful. How nice that the sisters can visit! YOU are such a good wife.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful time on holiday! Funny, but I never think about American shows playing overseas. Thank you for sharing your experiences, it gives me a better understanding of a different place :)
ReplyDeleteI love Oklahoma though it's been years since I've seen it. Have a wonderful time away!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are enjoying your time in Brighton - it is hard to be away from the garden in summer, but that's the time for vacations and getaways, too. It's always a bit of a pull either way.
ReplyDeleteWe saw Oklahoma years ago - such a fun musical.
Gosh, first saw in the 50's Brilliant. So you are coming to Brighton! Hope you have a lovely time.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your little getaway. I remember my mom singing snatches of songs from Oklahoma when I was a small child . . . "the corn is as high as an elephant's eye . . ." when she was working around the house.
ReplyDeleteBrighton is lovely. Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteLove Oklahoma! Saw it years ago and fell in love. Enjoy your time away. May He continue to bless you both. xoxo
