Like many others I would love to go to the Chelsea Garden show--preferably on a day when no one else was there, except maybe the Queen.
However, we have to be content with Television views.
This year the Best in Show garden is by Dan Pearson, who has had an eleven year absence for Chelsea.
He has recreated, and seemingly moved, Chatsworth House garden to Chelsea.
Enormous pieces of rock were brought in from a quarry in Derbyshire, and even the showground engineers were worried about the weight on the grounds, under which ran some Victorian sewer pipes.
It recreates a trout stream and a rock garden in Chatsworth. I love the gentle naturalistic planting and the fact that the whole garden looks as though it has been there for ever.
Many of the plants will be returning to the trout stream area in Chatsworth, so the garden will go on being enjoyed, rather than being sold off piecemeal.

Wow. So lush and beautiful. That stone piece looks like a person reading to me...
ReplyDeleteI was able to attend in 2013. Chelsea is amazing year after year.

ReplyDeleteIt would be a dream come true to visit the Chelsea. I have seen Chatsworth, though, and it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe garden looks lovely and yes, a quiet tour with the queen would be nice ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day! Love, Carolien
I've been visiting the Chelsea Flower Show over the last week, watching the competition between some very talented designers/gardeners to win the chance of exhibiting this year. It's amazing how all those plants can be transplanted, yet look as though they have always grown in that place. How come when I plant something, it droops sulkily for a few days before deigning to accept its new position?
ReplyDeletePS - I omitted to say that my visits have been via the TV!!
ReplyDeleteOh my beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, visiting the show with only the Queen and you!
ReplyDeleteAmazing effort for a flower show, with really stunning results. May I join you and the Queen on your tour of the show?
ReplyDeletePlease do, Lorrie. We will have to practice our curtsies.
Deleteyes I saw this on tv, I can't imagine how they recreated a trout stream but how amazing. I also wonder how they manage to keep everything alive, on Tuesday we had hailstones here at sunny Gatwick, I presume Chelsea is exposed to much the same weather as the rest of the south. I enjoyed seeing Prince Harry and his African garden on tv. I notice all the gardens this year are much more informal, wild and natural looking, much better.
ReplyDeleteI had great fantasies of taking my daughter to the flower show to celebrate her turning 40, but I failed to plan and knowing that May is her busy month, it would have been only a long week end trip. Someday, I say. PS I am quite enjoying the bits of laces that you sent me. I have used the pretty little wrapping tissue as seat covers for chairs. I'll be showing them on the dollhouse blog soon. I think of you as I work.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful place. I dream of coming back to the UK, love all that green and the flowers. Thank you for sharing a little bit of your beauty with us.
ReplyDeleteI too have a dream of once coming over to see Chelsea Flower Show but alas have simply said it each year and not done so. I love the natural look too. We tried to do just that in our garden as you read in my blog post. I hope you do one day make it there...
ReplyDeleteHugs from Holland,
